When is my MCS-150 due?

FMCSA requires every active motor carrier to file an MCS-150 update at least once every 24 months — the biennial update rule. Your specific due month is determined by the next-to-last digit of your USDOT number, not by when you last filed: if your DOT number ends in an odd digit, your update is due in an odd-numbered year; even, even. The last digit of your USDOT number sets the month.

So DOT #123456 is due in June of every even year (last digit 6 = June, second-to-last digit 5 = odd year). DOT #223457 is due in July of every odd year. The full table is on FMCSA's site, but this lookup just tells you directly.

What happens if I miss it

Missing the MCS-150 deadline is the single most common cause of USDOT deactivation. FMCSA begins the deactivation process when the filing is more than 90 days late. Once your authority is deactivated, you can no longer legally operate in interstate commerce until you refile and pay reinstatement fees.

Fines for late filing range from $1,000 to $10,000 depending on how delinquent the filing is and whether the carrier continues operating. Brokers and shippers who check your authority status will see a red flag during the deactivation window — this quietly loses loads long before any official enforcement action.

Filing is free and takes about 10 minutes on FMCSA's portal (you need your DOT PIN). The lookup below shows your current filing date, your next due date, and exactly how many days remain.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know my MCS-150 due date?

It's set by your USDOT number, not your last filing date. The next-to-last digit determines the year (odd/even) and the last digit determines the month. Our lookup calculates it automatically from your DOT number.

Can I file early?

Yes. FMCSA allows MCS-150 updates any time, and filing early resets your clock only within the same biennial window — your next due date stays the same. Many carriers file 30 days before deadline to build a buffer.

What if I've never filed an MCS-150?

Every active USDOT holder has either filed one (at the time of initial registration) or has a placeholder record. If no filing date is on record, your authority is likely already revoked. File immediately through FMCSA's portal.

How do I get reminded before my deadline?

Transport Comply's monitoring plans send email reminders at 60, 30, 14, and 7 days before your MCS-150 comes due, along with a direct link to FMCSA's filing portal. Starts at $9.99/month for a single carrier — or $99/year to save 17%.
